Senate Dems ask for Place of origin Safety listening to over inspectors basic firing

Senate Democrats requested for a Place of origin Safety and Governmental Affairs Committee listening to over the hot inspectors basic firings by means of President Trump, in a letter Wednesday.

“President Trump’s sudden removal of 18 Inspectors General on January 25, 2025 and removal of the Inspector General for the U.S. Agency for International Development on February 11, 2025, was a clear violation of federal law and poses an existential threat to the federal government’s ability to conduct independent oversight,” consistent with the letter, which was once addressed to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the chair of the committee.

The letter is signed by means of Democratic Sens. Adam Schiff (Calif.), Ben Ray Luján (N.M.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Chris Van Hollen (Md.), Tim Kaine (Va.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Tammy Duckworth (Sick.), Richard Blumenthal (Conn.) and Ron Wyden (Ore.).

“Congress has a vested interest in ensuring that Inspectors General are protected from political interference and remain trusted, nonpartisan, and accountable watchdogs of the federal government,” the senators wrote.

Final month, greater than a dozen inspectors basic had been ousted by means of the president. Departments suffering from the firings integrated the Protection Division, the State Division, Power Division, Division of Housing and City Construction, and Division of Veterans Affairs.

On Tuesday, the inspector basic for the U.S. Company for Global Construction was once booted by means of the Trump White Space in a while after a record important of the international help freeze was once issued.

“These unprecedented terminations put at grave risk the independence of traditionally nonpartisan Inspectors General and contravened statutory requirements that Presidents must notify Congress prior to an Inspector General’s removal and provide a substantive rationale,” the Democrats stated of their letter.

The Hill has reached out to the place of work of Paul and the White Space for remark.

Do you mean remove “ICE” (the agency) or remove the reference to “Arizona’s sheriff Joe Arpaio”? Once you confirm which to omit, I’ll provide a punchier headline with that source removed
