Musk says federal employee electronic mail supposed to identify 'outright fraud'

Tech billionaire Elon Musk stated on Sunday the e-mail to federal workers asking them to record again on their weekly accomplishments is supposed to identify “outright fraud” from other people at the payroll who are not operating in any respect.

“The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!” Musk wrote at the social platform X, responding to a submit in regards to the electronic mail.

“In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks,” Musk endured. “In other words, there is outright fraud.”

Musk — who has led the White Area effort to show waste, fraud and abuse within the federal govt — introduced Saturday afternoon on X that federal workers would quickly get an electronic mail “requesting to understand what they got done last week.”

“Failure to response will be taken as a resignation,” he added.

The message, reviewed via The Hill, informed federal workers to “please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullet points of what you accomplished last week.”

The e-mail steered workers to cc their supervisor on their responses, to not ship any categorised knowledge or attachments and to respond via 11:59 p.m. on Monday.

As with a lot of Musk’s strikes and directives, the blowback used to be swift.

Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Govt Staff (AFGE), launched a vital commentary on Saturday.

“It is cruel and disrespectful to hundreds of thousands of veterans who are wearing their second uniform in the civil service to be forced to justify their job duties to this out-of-touch, privileged, unelected billionaire,” Kelley stated.

“AFGE will challenge any unlawful terminations of our members and federal employees across the country.”

Musk stated early Sunday that he already gained “a large number of good responses” to the e-mail and instructed that “these are the people who should be considered for promotion.”

The brand new Trump management technique comes as Musk takes an oversized function in serving to Trump slash the federal body of workers. Musk wielded a chainsaw all through the CPAC convention previous this week, touting those cuts and screaming, “This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy.”
