Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser mentioned Thursday on MSNBC there may be “certainly a conversation to be had” about site visitors at Ronald Reagan Washington Nationwide Airport.

“There have been questions about the level of congestion at Reagan National Airport. It’s one of the busiest airports in the country. Should measures be taken to reduce the amount of air traffic in that area?” host Ana Cabrera requested Bowser.

“Well, I think [that’s] certainly a conversation to be had. It’s argued almost annually about adding slots here. I do think that’s a conversation for another day, but it has our attention,” Bowser mentioned.

On Wednesday night time, a collision took place between an Military Black Hawk helicopter and American Airways flight close to Nationwide Airport. Officers have mentioned there have been no survivors of the Washington metro house crash, and a minimum of 28 our bodies have been recovered as of 8 a.m. native time.

“This airport handles a lot of people safely from around the nation … around the world, and we want that to continue to happen,” Bowser mentioned. “But we know that all Americans, the flying public and certainly the families who have lost loved ones need answers.”

Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the famed “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot, informed The New York Instances on Wednesday that “a lot” of the era at Nationwide Airport “is old.”

Consistent with a Virginia historical past web page, the past due Nineteen Thirties marked the beginning of Nationwide Airport’s development.

“It hasn’t changed much since then,” Sullenberger mentioned. “Of course, we’ve added technology to it. But a lot of the technology is old.”

President Trump mentioned the Wednesday crash “should have been prevented.”

“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport,” the president posted on Fact Social. “The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time.”

“It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn. Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane,” he endured. “This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!!”

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority mentioned in an e-mail to The Hill that they “don’t have any comment on” Bowser’s feedback.
